The conservation easement was originally established in 1995 to help preserve the old growth trees, maintain privacy, and to reduce taxes. Some of the trees on the property are a remarkable 120 years old and help to provide the exquisite sense of privacy that the estate affords. Currently the easement is monitored by Forterra, the largest land conservation non-profit in Washington. The process to maintain the easement has been well documented and should be seamlessly transitioned without disruption. Any future development of the main house, guest house, or access drive would need to maintain the current footprint of each structure and be completed in observance of the agreement.

The conservation easement ensures that the privacy and remarkable forest will be maintained for years to come, while also offering private walking trails and the benefit of reduced property taxes.
